Garden

I just returned from planting my vegetable garden at the community garden plot. Already some people have corn almost a foot high! Other gardens are still not planted and sporting some nice weeds, mine fell into that category.
With hoe and rake in had I began to work the soil after about 5 minutes of that under a hot sun I had enough and decided to go the no till route.
Now, the no-till route is very green. When you till the soil you release CO2 into the air. CO2? Yes the greenhouse gas. The no-till is beginning to catch on with many farmers. For one it saves them time, energy, cost of tilling, I guess thats three. Fourthly by not tilling soil is less susceptible to erosion from wind and water. Also the soil is less prone to drought. The planet, or rather weeds protect the soil from the hot sun so less water is evaporated into the air. You use less fertilizer to kill weeds.
Big savings all around. Now I guess you're wondering why doesn't everyone and every framer do this? Well having all those weeds in your field doesn't look very good. So if you can stand the weeds will be saving the planet.
Back to my garden, so there I am planting my Tomato, fennel and Pepper plants and who but appears? Wayne Hansen. The guy with the power tiller. So I used it, OK!
Now my veggi garden is freshly tilled. The weeds are turned into the soil. I planted corn and watermelon. This year I hope no one steals my watermelon.
